Latest issue - Clubs
This letter concerns the recent closing of many pub and clubs premises predominantly frequented by black clientele in and around Burngreave, Pitsmoor and the city. There is a real issue regarding the lack of clubs and events that provide black / African-Caribbean music such as: Hip Hop, Rap, Garage and Reggae in or around Sheffield. Those that do, practice some form of apartheid, in fear of allowing the establishment to become over populated by too many young black African Caribbean, Asian and mixed race males. Having watched night clubs and pubs such as the 30 plus, Niche, Platinum Lounge, Gower Arms, Robin Hood, Mill Tavern, Market Tavern and Cannon Hall, spiral from out of control to mayhem, we must begin asking ourselves other questions.
These concern not just the behavior of a younger generation but the lack of proper role models, full parental control and self-policing of the African Caribbean community. As a community we have begun to play out some form of genocide, killing each other and everything that is proud about being black African and Caribbean.
Our music is being played wrong, with words distorted by violence, greed, lust, anger and hate. Forcing places where our music and dance is to be enjoyed to be no longer environments you can relax in. Even as black people many of us seem to have come to terms with the risk by no longer frequenting these premises. Those who live life on the edge of society have little understanding for the need for cohesion in order to make our community and the city more vibrant and prosperous for us all.
Some say the whole African Caribbean nation and its descendants have lacked any form of trusted leadership or voice that brings them together in order to teach and understand the real issues and mistakes we are making. We often hear many of us accusing the system we live in of being unjust, while we have forever been a disorganised nation that is now running amok and is achieving nothing but the self destruction of itself.
Checking out the real situation in order to repair, in order to attempt to reverse this on going situation that is spiraling out of control.
